The Shadow Ring - Hold On To ID

The Shadow Ring's excursions into rock's most primitive territories have created something of their own musical language, and Hold Onto I.D. follows up excellently in this vein -- the band's abrasive minimalism is in fine, eerie form, but also sports a post-punk angularity that keeps the album as much in line with This Heat or the Fall as it is with gritty New Zealand projects like This Kind of Punishment. There is, of course, the fact that many music lovers might find this work completely unlistenable, but the select niche of listeners who have loved the Shadow Ring's earlier work will undoubtedly find Hold Onto I.D. a thrilling advancement of their musical aims.

What can I say, your well and truly spoiling us. I'm good for the next week now. Plus the added satisfaction of seeing you finally post something I already have,(Chrome) not that I'd especially like to see it repeated (your byline should be "obscure" weirdo, lo-fi & outsider music)and that's why I'm loving your work. Pushing the envelope - could you maybe include your favourite tracks of an album occasionally. Oh yeah... and "Steve" isn't really working for me as my NZ guru of brilliant, impossible to find lo-fi(or order - I buy what I can find) music, I think something more exotic would be appropriate, hell - I'm on a roll. Look forward to your next post.

and when I say "the next week", I actually mean the next day or two. Work Shmerk, I'm typing this left handed as my girlfriend is asleep, snoring, and giving me a dead arm by sleeping on my right after we've both done our 8 hours. You have no excuses.

Music gets me through the day and lives forever.

Anyway, I'll try and stop monopolising your comments fields in the future.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I would prefer that people posted comments, not only does it motivate me and make me feel like people are actually reading the blog I think it's important to have a dialogue about the music.

Hopefully that's something we'll see more of in the future.
