Blues Control - Local Flavor (2009)

After a series of one-off releases on Holy Mountain, Woodsist & Sub Pop, Blues Control finally delivers on the greatness that those releases only hinted at on label where they couldn't possibly be more at home... thee mighty Siltbreeze!. Russ Waterhouse and Lea Cho clearly have been refining their craft and it pays dividends throughout the albums four tracks. From the relatively straight forward (for them) stomp of the opener "Good Morning" (feat. horns by Kurt Vile & Jesse Trbovich) to the Harmonia-esque "Tangier" Blues Control shows their stylistic range without ever feeling contrived or over staying their welcome. This is easily the best Blues Control release and a strong contender for the best Siltbreeze release so far this year. What are you waiting for? Download it. Love it and buy a copy right here.

You really ought to consider that this is a new release by a current band. You had the decency to recommend artists like Pumice on the Kiwi Tapes blog without offering the albums down-loadable outright. It was based on the fact that you had made note of them among the other wonderful (out of print) music you had posted that got me into current NZ music (e.g Pumice). That it it would be worthwhile to check out, without potentially ripping off hard working folks like Pumice, Sic Alps, or Blues Control; or labels like Siltbreeze, Soft Abuse, etc. So that this music may proliferate and be published. The music itself is amazing and the artists themselves deserve to be supported in a way that extends, not inhibits their ability to do so. There is such a thing as an irresponsible blog and I would hate to see Decrepit Tapes fall into that category.

I don't think he can do more than tell you to buy it, really. I think more people are likely to buy it if they get a chance to listen to it first - I, for instance, would never have even heard of this release without this blog.

I agree that Siltbreeze etc. do fine work, but I disagree that by putting their albums up you're inhibiting their ability to make music in the future.
